Essentials of Life. Porcelain with String, Glaze, and Acrylic Paint. 2017.

In this piece I was tasked to make a clay piece that used string and was appealing to the eye. The meaning behind this piece is that there are three definite things in life that everyone needs: Family, symbolized by the group of people, friends, symbolized by the smiling face, faith, symbolized by the cross, and of course the world, without it none of us would be here.
Evolution of the Navy. Colored Pencil and Shading Pencil on Paper. 2017.

I have always been fascinated with the armed forces. When I was younger I dreamed of being a Marine but as I got older, I realized that that probably wouldn't happen, but I still thought about serving the country. I love water and this led me to think about the Navy. That is where this idea came from. At first, I thought of doing a ship from every major war but after looking at some of them I noticed that two or three of them looked really similar, so I stuck to just doing four of them: Revolutionary War, World War I, World War II, and modern day ships. I chose to make the background a sunrise because it embodies the start of a new day and just another chance to change and to evolve.

From the Earth. Red Earthenware Clay with Engobe. 2016.

I made this piece to represent how there is more to something than just what a person sees. Just like a tree, most things and people have something or someone behind them that helps to give them life and meaning. People seem to look at something and think,"Oh that's cool!", but then they don't give it a second look and try to figure out its deeper meaning.

Peace Amidst the Chaos. Acrylic Paint, Watercolor, and Crayon on Canvasboard. 2016.

In this painting, I wanted to use the composition between warm and cool colors to represent the difference between light and dark. The background is random and warm colors like red and orange to show the craziness of life, but I made the cross in the center blue because it is a more calming color and really jumps out against the multi-colored background. This is to show how Christ is the peace amidst a world of chaos. I also included the fish in the center because the lord calls us to be fishers of men.
